PRESSISION RESEARCH VISIT- PRINTERS

just been for a visit to a printers in leeds called Pressision, they are a printers which deal with a range of print jobs and specialize in print finishes, such as foil blocking, die cutting and embossing.

this was an interesting visit and it has informed and developed my understanding of print. it was interesting to look into the production side of design and see how much opportunities you have open to you when you are creating design. this visit has informed my design practice, and allowed me to think of how i can design work which will work successfully with the range of stocks and print process which are available. It has also been useful to find a local printer, which can produce work to a high standard and are good to work with.

Johnaton, at pressision took us on the tour, which was very kind of him.
he showed use how they deal with the jobs, which are sent by the designers, this consists of setting up the jobs and artwork on the computer first, then depending on the jobs the plate are made. He then showed use how the plates are made, these are done on a laser machine, this is a more modern way of making plates and are not used by all printers, this machine was.
He showed use the Print floor, this was a room which consisted of a huge Lithography printer, a foil blocking press, which also deals with other finishes such as embossing. this machine was much older than the newer printers, but was really good to see in action. this floor also consisted of other prepping machines, which deal with processes such as folding and cutting. the other part was full of a large quantity of paper socks and a new folk lift.
