QUESTIONS:
1. could you briefly explain the processes you undertook to the creation
of Colourplan Barr(y)ie.
The Colour matching process usually starts with a customer sending a sample
in for us to match before going in to production , in the case of
Colourplan Barr(y)ie Generation Press were on site as they did not know the
exact colour that they required so we were starting from a blank canvass.
We started with the white pulp base and after selecting the dyes to be used
(dye selection is based on the properties required such as
lightfastness ,waterfastness ect),the dyes were then added to the pulp and
mixed before making a hand sheet to asses the shade, the initial colour was
yellow but this was altered to a green shade to achieve the intensity and
vibrancy of the final product and so after a few adjustments Barr(y)ie
green was born .
The Lab match and dye recipe were then issued to the mill for production,
the dyes were then added to the blending chest and from there on to the
machine wire, through the drying section and on to the reel up.The final
product was then converted to the required sheet size for the customer.
2. Personally i think Colour Plan Barr(y)ie, has been key in creating a
unique identity for generation press. what are your views on this?
Yes I agree , having met the guys from Generation press they have a real
passion for their craft and wanted a colour that would be unique to them
and would show there vitality and enthusiasm for print and graphic design
3. As a company which provides a service for the production of
coloured and specialist paper. Can you explain or give examples of
the clients which you produce work for? (Specialist/ high end/ regular)

applications - Poppy paper for remembrance day ,Anti microbial papers for
infection control.

and book covers ect for many of the high street chains.

More information on the James Cropper website - www.jamescropper.com
4. What types of stocks are more frequently required for high end
promotions. Can you give any examples.
High end promotions require stocks which are made from a pure pulp base and
not a recycled base as recycled paper is only as good as the waste used at
the time of making and the properties of a recycled paper are inferior to
pure pulp based papers which could affect the quality of print on high
quality products,
5. What are your views on print based graphic design. Are you attracted to
design which use considered stocks and print process. Do you feel
consideration of stocks and print process are vital for successful graphic
design.
When I first saw the web page for the Generation Press design It certainly
had the wow factor and the design and the contrast between the paper stock
and print were quite dynamic , so I think that consideration of stocks and
print process are vital for successful graphic design.
Thank you for your time, your answers will be very valuable to me and to
the book which I will producing
kind regards
Anand
